Manthottam - The Independence Day Massacre
On 4th February 1987, a group of armed       LTTE terrorists comprising over 50 LTTE cadres, stormed       Manthottam Sinhalese village and murdered eight villagers       after brutally torturing them.
     
     The terrorists could not get the intended kill as the       villagers anticipating an attack on the independence day had       gone on hiding in the surrounding jungles at night
Aranthalawa Bloodbath
On 7th February 1987, just three days after the independence day, terrorists armed with swords, machetes, clubs and small-armed butchered 27 civilians in a house-to-house raid at night. Large number of children and women including pregnant mothers were found hacked to death
